How To Store Concentrates

Storing your concentrates can be tricky. There are a number of ways to ensure that the quality of your product is kept fresh while not losing the effects.

Concentrates have gained wide popularity within the industry over the past few years. While you may receive a smaller package the purchasing dry herb, the percentage that often comes with these products is close to 100%. Concentrates are the byproduct of CBD extraction from "dry herb". This means that concentrates are a highly potent batch.

The process can be difficult if you don't have the right tools, but fortunately, there are plenty of legitimate businesses that specialize in developing and producing different kinds of concentrates.

So with everything else, do concentrates go bad? is there an expiration date? Of course! Just like "dry herb", or even food and beverages, concentrates have a shelf life. Over time, it will start to lose its potency. If it is exposed to air, light, or any other natural element that causes the degradation of a product, your product will lose its quality.

One of the upsides to having concentrates over "dry herb" is the ability to maintain its freshness. While "dry herb" is, well, plant-based, the degradation of plant material happens much sooner. On the other side of the coin, concentrates are wax/ oil-based and the quality can last much longer (if you store them correctly).

Many users utilize wax paper for storage. While this may work in the short term, it is best to find a glass or silicone storage jar in order to maintain the quality of your product. This is not the only step you should take, but for across-the-board tips, this is the start.

In order to start planning on how to store your concentrates, there are a few elements to consider. One of the most important of these considerations is the length of time that you are looking to keep your concentrates in storage. The other major factor is specifically what kind of concentrates you have.

How Long Do Concentrates Last?

This answer isn't specifically clear. The longevity of your product can come from different variables that are even outside of your own spectrum. For instance, the products that went into extracting your concentrates can cause them to break down and lose their potency much faster than other methods.

All-in-all, if you are purchasing your concentrates through a reliable and safely tested company, then they can last up to a year with proper storage.

The Right Container Matters

When you look at concentrates, it looks like a simple concept. While it may seem like you can keep them in their wax paper for extended periods of time, it is something that you won't need to worry about only if you plan to use it all in a relatively short amount of time.

Utilizing a glass container is one o the best resources. Every smoke shop has these readily available and they are inexpensive. If you are looking to keep your concentrates for a long time then a glass container will be perfect for storing.

Glass containers are often air-tight and reduce the amount of moisture that can accumulate inside. Without these air-tight seals, your concentrate can lose its potency.

How To Store Concentrates

Concentrates have come a long way since they were first developed and introduced to the industry. Since then there has been a multitude of extraction techniques that allows for different types of consistency. Live resin, hash oils, rosin, crumble, shatter and many more types are now widely available to the public. because they utilize different methods for extraction, each one has relatively specific requirements when storing.

Storing Shatter

Shatter is produced by utilizing solvents. Its consistency is relatively harder than most. It's thin and can break like glass - thus the name "Shatter". You want to keep this concentrate out of the light and in an airtight container such as glass with a plastic airtight seal. This specific concentrate can almost melt if you touch it with your bare hands. Even though you have it in an airtight jar, it is a relatively good idea to keep it wrapped in wax or parchment paper.

Storing Live Resin

Live resin is one of the most popular concentrates. This often allows the user to obtain a full flavor profile if they are vaping it at the right temperatures. The terpene profile is higher than most other concentrates thus the flavorful impact is what is more commonly sought after. In order to preserve the terpenes, this is a concentrate that can and should be stored in the refrigerator. A refrigerator will help maintain the level of dryness and remove any moisture.

Best Storage Method For Wax

Wax has a thinner consistency. It is also oily in comparison to its other cousins. This has the tendency to lose its potency at a much faster rate than many of the other variants. Storing it quickly is the most crucial part of ensuring its longevity.

Storing in a refrigerator is another best tip. Making sure your jar is matte-black and cannot let light in when necessary is a big factor.

How To Store Crumble

Crumble has the consistency of baked cookie dough. Thus the name. It is one of the more common concentrates in the industry. What makes it so popular is its high potency of upwards of 90%. An airtight glass container is perfect for storing this. Since these concentrates have a relatively low consistency and tend to "crumble" when scooping it with your dab tool. Keep Crumble out of the light and in a relatively cool environment.
